Ingredients
Cake:
1/2 cup (1 stick) room temp butter
3/4 cp sugar
4 eggs
1 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1, 16oz can chocolate syrup
1 Tbsp vanilla
Topping:
1/2 cup butter (no substitute)
3/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup chocolate chips
Preparation
Preheat oven to 350º
Cake: In a large bowl cream together butter, sugar and eggs with mixer. Add chocolate syrup and vanilla. In a separate bowl mix dry ingredients together; flour, baking powder and salt. Add dry ingredients to wet and beat well.
Pour batter into greased and floured 3 quart baking pan (9x13"). Bake for 30 min.
Topping: (begin preparing about 10 min before cake is done.) In a saucepan bring butter, sugar and milk to a rolling boil (stir only once). Remove from heat and stir in the chocolate chips until melted and smooth–no lumps. Gently pour over hot cake. Let the liquid topping spread and settle. It will harden to a shiny smooth surface.
