Ingredients

3 squares unsweetened chocolate

2 1/4 cups sifted cake flour

2 teaspoons baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup butter

1 pound box light brown sugar

3 eggs

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

1 cup sour cream

1 cup boiling water

Preparation

Melt chocolate. Let cool while proceeding with preparations. Grease and flour two 9x1 1/2 inch cake pans. Sift together flour, soda, and salt. Beat butter until soft in a bowl that will hold at least 4 quarts. Add brown sugar and eggs. Beat with mixer at high speed until light and fluffy (about 5 minutes). Beat in vanilla and melted chocolate. Stir in dry ingredients alternately with sour cream. Beat well by hand after each addition. Stir in boiling water - batter will be thin. Pour into pans. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes. Cool in pans on wire rack 10 minutes. Turn out onto wire racks to cool completely. Frost.
