Ingredients

2 cups sifted cake flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup shortening

1 & 1/2 sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

3 eggs separated

2 squares chocolate, melted & cooled

1 cup buttermilk

Preparation

  1. sift flour, baking soda & salt together.
  2. cream sugar and shortening till light
  3. add vanilla and beat in egg yolks.
  4. stir in chocolate
  5. add sifted ingredients and buttermilk, alternately in about 3 portions beating after each.
  6. fold in stiffly beaten egg whites
  7. pour into greased floured pan and bake at 350 degrees F for approximately 45 minutes.
