Ingredients
Cake:
4 Squares Baking Chocolate
1 cup butter
2.25 cups sugar
1.5 cups milk
3 cups sifted cake flour
.5 teaspoon baking powder, sifted
1 teaspoon baking soda, sifted
.5 teaspoon salt
5 eggs, seperated
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Frosting:
3 cups sifted confectioners sugar
.33 cup heavy cream
.25 cup margarine
2 squares unsweetened chocolate
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
.25 teaspoon salt
Preparation
- Melt baking chocolate over simmering water and add to butter and sugar creamed together well.
- Add milk and flour with the baking soda, baking powder and salt alternately.
- Then add the well-beaten egg yolks.
- Beat the egg whites until they are stiff and add to the mixture.
- Add vanilla.
- pour into two well greased and flored 9in cake pans.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.
- While the cake is baking combine all the frosting ingredients in a bowl and stir until well blended.
- When the cake is completely cool then frost.
