Ingredients

In mixing bowl

2 cups flour

2 cups sugar

1/2 cut shortening

1 Teas. salt

1 1/2 Teas. soda

3 squares melted unsweetened chocolate (3 oz.)

3/4 cup milk

Blend for 2 minutes

Stir in 3/4 teas. baking powder

ADD:

1/2 cup milk

1 Teas. vanilla

3 eggs unbeaten

Preparation

Pour batter into 2- 9" layer cake pans. Bake 30-35 minutes at 350°F.

After completely cooled, slice of rounded tops with bread knife.

Frost with 3-4-minute frosting.

In top of double boiler

1/2 cup light corn syrup 1/2 cup sugar 2 egg whites 1/8 teas. salt

1 teas. Vanilla

Partially mix, place on rapidly boiling water and cook 3 to 4 minutes, beating constantly with hand mixer until stiff. Remove and beat in vanilla.

FROST CAKE - refrigerate and serve cold
